Elkford - Wild at Heart!
The Elkford Skating Club has been a part of Elkford, BC, for over 45 years with over 50+ active skating members and a full Board of Directors. Our executive is committed to professional development and supporting the needs of our coaching staff through ongoing training opportunities and professional development.
Our club programming includes activities such as Parent and Tot, Pre-CanSkate, CanSkate, and StarSkate lessons. Our season runs from September to December and January to March, offering half-season and full-season options. The current skating schedule includes 12-15 hours of on-ice sessions on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with room to expand off-ice training, PowerSkate, and Adult/Teen Programs. Our skating club offers off-ice training as well as on-ice jump harness training.
Coaches can expect to launch skaters at three to five competition weekends per season. We offer a December holiday exhibition show and a spring year-end Ice Show, available to the public. We are also excited to explore Skate Canada’s new synchro initiatives.

There may be additional opportunities for coaching in neighboring communities within the Elk Valley/East Kootenay region of BC and southwestern Alberta.

Summary
We are looking for a motivated and organized StarSkate coach who can work well as part of a team with other club coaches and our board of directors to deliver an excellent StarSkate program to youth in our community. The right candidate will be energetic, reliable, and safety-driven, with a positive attitude toward helping skaters develop and reach their own unique personal goals.
Requirements:
● Passionate about figure skating and enjoys working with children of all ages.
● A minimum Regional Coach-in-Training Certification. *Elkford Skating Club is willing to work with the right candidate to achieve Regional Coach Certification. We will consider sponsoring a coach who would complete upcoming Skate Canada Regional Coach training courses and sign a contract with our club.
● Active member of Skate Canada and in good standing.
● Able to pass a Criminal Record Check and achieve First Aid certification.
● Committed to ongoing professional development and staying up-to-date with Skate Canada requirements, as well as figure skating and coaching skills.
Preferred qualifications:
● Trained in the new CanSkate program.
● Able to help plan, choreograph, and execute an Ice Show as part of the coaching and volunteer executive team (Ice Show Bonus offered).
● The ability to teach off-ice classes would be an asset.
● Able to teach up to Gold levels in all disciplines.
● 5+ years of experience coaching StarSkate; experience with Star 1 to 5 testing.
