We are seeking a club coach to join the current coaching team. The position starts in late August, 2025.
The Valleyview Skating Club is a thriving club of approximately 350 skaters, located in beautiful Kamloops, BC. Kamloops and the surrounding area offer many opportunities for indoor and outdoor activities.
The ideal candidate will be an organized, highly motivated professional with a passion for skating who demonstrates strong communication and interpersonal skills with skaters of all ages, parents, fellow coaches and club executives.
On-ice and off-ice coaching of Canskate, Star (including Adult) and Podium Pathway skaters in a great team coaching environment in all disciplines, for all available on-ice and off-ice hours throughout the year, with some paid preparatory administrative time. You would be joining a team of coaches who work well together and who have complementary strengths.
- Our regular programming commences in early September and ends mid-March (18 hours per week, five days a week), with a two-week break to coincide with the Winter school break;
- Seven-week spring camp in April/May/June (12 – 15 hours per week, four/five days a week);
- Three-week summer camp in August (3 hours per day, four days per week).
Ice times during the regular season are Monday to Thursday (afternoon to early evening) and Friday mornings in both the Valleyview Arena and Sandman Centre, with other arenas being utilized in the low season.
The coaching team is supported by a well-established, experienced, knowledgeable and supportive Board of Directors.
Requirements and Qualifications
Be a coach in good standing with Skate Canada and all that that entails.
Regional trained or higher qualifications (ideally with experience in all disciplines – freeskate, skills, dance and synchro as well as experience with choreography).
Have completed Star 6 to Gold Skate Canada update training (preferred).
We Offer:
Moving bonus of $2,000.00 for out-of-town applicants on signing the coaching contract and on completion of one full year of coaching.
Networking assistance with relocation, obtaining accommodations and related moving logistics, if necessary.
Competitive club paid wages of between $25.00 - $70.00 per hour for on-ice instruction and between $20.00 - $25.00 per hour for administrative times, based on current qualifications. Potential for wage increases as higher levels of qualifications are achieved.
Assistance with expenses for participation in coaching seminars and higher learning opportunities.
