Dear Clubs, Coaches and Skaters,
It has been brought to our attention that a letter of opening from Skate Canada BC/YK began to circulate yesterday. This letter was part of the submission to ViaSport and the BC Health Ministry; it was not supposed to be distributed and we are investigating how this occurred. We would like to clarify the following:
- The Sport Figure Skating is not authorized to operate at this time. That means clubs and Skate Canada programs are not allowed to operate until the Ministry of Health has given us and the sport sector authorization to do so. Our application is now under consideration.
- Private ice facilities may, and in some cases have applied to local health authorities to open. Some facilities have been granted status to operate but under very specific guidelines. Skaters and coaches may use these private ice openings, but it must be understood they do so at their own risk and are not part of an organized Skate Canada Club or program activity.
Once Skate Canada BC/YK is approved to open operations we will notify every club and coach by an official communication by email blast, social media and website information. We apologize for the confusion and hope this information helps you to understand the situation and process we are currently engaged in.
Ted Barton
Executive Director
